«Christ’s hands» - reaching those who can’t hear
The church for deaf people and people with hearing disabilities “Christ’s hands” Church of Good Changes was founded in September 2009. Growing from the separate ministry of the church into affiliated church they have become more efficient and clear for those who have not logical but creative thinking.
The specialty of the church “Christ’s hands” is that they preach in language that makes more sense for deaf people. They use special methods to approach this category of population. That’s why according to the pastor of the church “Christ’s hands” Alexander Shychov the ministries to deaf people inside non-specified churches almost don’t grow. Only within several months after opening the church 4 newcomers have been baptized and have become new church members. Sasha Shychov states that it’s 10 times harder to lead a deaf person to conversion to Christ. There are some reasons for it: firstly, deaf people have some kind of distrust to those who can hear. Secondly, they practically don’t make sense of deep spiritual things because their thinking differs. But the saddest thing is that deaf people in their majority are resentful with God.
Alexander Shychov, pastor of the church for deaf people “Christ’s hands”: “When we made a decision to open the daughter for deaf people at the Church of Good Changes those who were permanent attendees of our ministry has become so thrilled about it, the atmosphere really changed. All of a sudden they expressed their desire to be active in the ministry of reaching people, Bible study and worship. The idea to make pantomime was supported by them with enthusiasm. They gave up being consumers but decided it is time to serve others. They felt some kind of freedom and moved on in creative work and ministry to others.” Pastor Alexander has 4 assistants from whom 2 are deaf people. They lead Bible study nights. Most of deaf people are illiterate and each word is to be explained for them. Besides, the church “Christ’s hands” has night prayer meetings and recently the new class to study language of gestures has been started at the church. In April there was a conference for deaf people and sign language interpreters in the city of Slavyansk. The deaf from other cities were inspired by the idea of creation daughter churches on the basis of existing ministries for deaf people since interpretation of sermons for those who can hear to deaf is less efficient and extremely difficult. Experienced ministers say that when one interprets a message into the sign language they actually don’t interpret words but images and the whole message must last not more than 25 minutes. After that their attention dissipates for they have to look at one spot. «Both in Europe and Russia, - Alexander Shychov shares, - the practice of opening separate churches for deaf people has been existing for quite awhile. In Ukraine such practice has just been germinating”. “Christ’s hands” Church is planning to make feature movies and clips for deaf people and they dream to make a video version of the New Testament in sign language. The young church needs support. Through the Charity Fund “ Pilgrim” you can render any help to the church “ Christ’s hands” with a remark “for the church for deaf people”.

Adoptive father of 32 children, pastor -pilgrim Gennady Mokhnenko and his family live today in a fairly cramped conditions. The house they live in consists of two rooms for 13 people. Recently, the adoptive family, with a charitable donation, was able to purchase another small house. Both houses need a lot of repairs, however, both parents and children are happy - they are now having more space where they can live.

At the end of 2011 in Italy, in Sassuolo, a second charity exhibition and sale of "ARTE solidale" took place. It was organized for the financial support of children center "Republic Pilgrim", in Mariupol, and for the African Mission in Burkina Faso, where for 40 years working missionaries Lisa and Umberto Ladder.

In the center of children's rehabilitation "Republic Pilgrim" in Mariupol, were guests of the British Liverpool. Jennifer and Marc are already familiar with pilgrim children. They were together at last summer camp in the Crimea: played football, went on hike at the Grand Canyon, and now they came to visit “Pilgrim” again.

Pastor- pilgrim Gennady Mokhnenko going into another trip to Africa, Kenya, scheduled for mid-January of 2012. Pastor has a desire to see the same desperately dedicated travelers, who will spend 10 days of the mission in one of the poorest regions in the world.
